Vision
connect to protect
Mission
We connect key players and bring together the competences needed to protect society from biological risks from communicable diseases. We take a comprehensive 'One Health' approach and are engaged in the areas of prevention, detection and management. We are your single point of contact to prepare together for biological risks.
Goals and Approaches
We provide a national platform with international reach for institutions with key competencies from academia, the private sector, government and the non-profit sector.
Following a comprehensive "One Health" approach, we combine expertise from the human, veterinary and environmental sectors.
We consolidate expertise and scientific evidence and feed it into the decision-making process. We provide advice and support on issues related to the prevention, detection and management of crises caused by communicable diseases.
We help coordinate the research, development, production and delivery of tools such as vaccines and diagnostics needed to manage crises.
We help to minimise the negative impact of communicable diseases and to effectively prevent and manage crises together as a society.
Thematic focus areas
Our current thematic focus areas encompass two main domains:
Detection
Our goal is to identify knowledge and provision gaps in the detection and, in particular, the diagnostics of pathogens and to address them through research and innovation. Coordinated collaboration across disciplines and sectors is a key aspect of this.
Prevention
We are exploring ways to strengthen vaccine research, development, and production in Switzerland. Key elements include the optimal planning and utilization of existing infrastructure, improving the translation of basic research into production, and exploring the potential of new technologies and synergies between animal and human vaccines. We are also looking at other aspects of prevention, including antivirals and antibiotics as well as non-pharmaceutical approaches.
